The historical city of Tiruchirappalli in Tamil Nadu, India is also known as Tiruchi or Trichy, situated on the banks of the river Cauvery and is the fourth largest city in Tamil Nadu. Trichy is famous for its rich cultural and wonderful architectural heritage and the town represents a fine blend of tradition and modernity. Located at a distance of 15 km from Tiruchirapalli, ‘Kallanai’ was originally constructed across river Cauvery by the Chola king Karikalan around the 2nd Century AD and is considered to be one of the oldest water-diversion or water-regulator structures in the world which is still in use.
